An open record of things people cannot explain

An account in Hautes-Pyrnes, France

Several people observe on August 22, 2009 at around 9:30 PM the passage of an orange glowing ball. It moves along a straight trajectory from West to East: no noise is heard during the observation. The ball stops moving before disappearing at very high speed toward the south. The GEIPAN will later receive by email the testimonies of two other witnesses. The observation has the characteristics of Thai lanterns: orange color, movement consistent with the wind (weak variable wind, predominantly from the West), local festival nearby (Rencontres de Maubourguet). The apparent temporary stillness of the object can be explained by movement facing the observers, the disappearance of the object corresponds to the flame going out. The GEIPAN classifies this case 'B': probable observation of a Thai lantern.
