An open record of things people cannot explain

An account in Alpes-Maritimes, France

On August 15, 2009, between 11:15 PM and 11:25 PM, a pedestrian on the promenade in Menton observes in the sky, to the right of the Evening Star, the presence of a stationary luminous phenomenon. After three minutes of observation, the intensity of the light decreases. The phenomenon then rapidly makes a vertical ascent and disappears in two seconds in the direction of Italy. This took place over the Mediterranean Sea. Several hypotheses were analyzed (flare, pyrotechnic balloon, airplane, satellite) and remain possible, but could not be validated. (see investigation report). This case is classified "C" due to lack of information allowing one of these hypotheses to be fully confirmed or ruled out.
