An account in Hautes-Pyrnes, France

On June 3, 2009, a witness observed the fall of an object that struck a fir tree and rolled on the ground. The object measured 4.5 x 7.5 centimeters and weighed about 300 grams. He assumed it was a piece of meteorite. The analysis by the mineralogy expert attached to the laboratory for the study of transfer mechanisms in Geology at OMP Toulouse concluded with the certain identification of hematite, better known by the common name of iron ore, and in no case a celestial body. No impact trace was found at the indicated location of the object's fall, and there is no other witness to this observation.
