An open record of things people cannot explain

An account in Essonne, France

On February 2, 2002 at around 7:40 PM, a family in a car observes, above a forested area, a lit saucer-shaped mass. In the night, this mass, topped with a dome, is gray in color with white lights spaced along its belt. The phenomenon is stationary above the trees with a diameter estimated by the witnesses at about fifteen meters. No particular noise is heard. Following a change in the road's direction, the witnesses lose sight of the object. The case at the time is classified as D. Following a recent email from an internet user indicating in the observation area a water tower that could have led at the time to a misidentification, the case is reopened and additional investigation details are sought. Based on the witnesses' position, it is likely that there was a misidentification, not with a water tower but with the secondary radar of the General Delegation of Civil Aviation of Paris South Palaiseau, used for Orly airport, located indeed in the axis of the observation and matching the descriptions given by the witnesses. This case is reclassified as B.
