An account in Var, France

A witness reported in 2008 an observation made between 1973 and 1976 with no precise date or month. The date given here is arbitrary. The witness, walking alone along the edge of a country road, saw in a recess of a field a white-colored craft stationary a few meters above the ground. No engine noise was heard. Approaching the craft, the witness saw flashes then intense lighting around the craft, which took off with noise and gained altitude quickly. The spot where the craft had been stationed was burned, black but without fire. This old, very strange case was only submitted to GEIPAN in 2008, following a television program. In March 2012, a GEIPAN expert had a long phone conversation with the witness. Since the precise date of the observation is not known, and the witness refuses to give the names of those around him who were aware of the observation at the time, a serious investigation is impossible. Reservations can also be raised about the accuracy of memory regarding events dating back more than 35 years. Given these uncertainties, GEIPAN classifies this case "C": investigation impossible. GEIPAN notes, however, that the observation site is only 10 km from the Canjuers camp, the largest firing range in Western Europe, which already hosted at that time many military craft of all kinds.
