An account

I often dream about work. The work dream falls into one of two categories; being late/missing work or doing work poorly. My job involves putting patients to sleep, haha. Seriously, I am an anesthetist. In my work dreams I either fail to show up for an operation or my patient awakens from anesthesia during surgery. The most traumatic is the dream where the patient awakens. When this happens the patient generally is running around the room and the entire operating room staff is staring at me like I Am a horrible person. In last night's dream, the surgeon asked how the patient was doing. I responded that the patient was fine while I was panicking to give the patient more drugs. The patient kept moving and was not staying asleep despite my efforts. Finally, the patient pulled the tube from his mouth (the one that entered his trachea and supported his breathing) and was talking to me. I was trying to talk louder than the patient so that nobody would hear while I frantically tried to resedate him. In the end, I had to admit the patient was awake. When this happened I was hoping to be strong and deal with whatever punishment I had coming to me. Before anything else happened, I awoke.

Has this happened to you?

Write it down while you still remember the details. We will look for the others.

Know someone this happened to?

If this reminds you of something a friend or a relative told you once and never mentioned again, send them this page. Reading that a stranger described the same thing is usually the part that helps.
